ASSEMBLE

Judith Wright Arts Centre - Residency, 2021

Assemble is a year-long residency by members of the Aha Ensemble at the Judith Wright Arts Centre as part of the First Night Showcase program.

Through collaboration with Queensland guest artists Assemble aims to increase visibility of disabled artists within JWAC and further develop audiences for work by and for people with disability.

The residency takes the form of a monthly two-day activation where artists from Aha Ensemble come together to explore their collaborative devising processes, generate new artistic material as well as work with guest artists to build their capacity and skills as a mutual creative exchange. The residency focuses on public and non-traditional performance spaces within the venue as areas for creative experimentation.

Guest Artists include: Joseph Burgess, Jenni Large, Ashleigh Musk, Jorge Serra and Liesel Zink.

Aha Ensemble is supported by the QLD Government through Arts Queensland.

HOW WE MAKE WORK: WORKSHOP

  • Do you love to move, dance, create? Aha Ensemble do too and want you to join them in this open, all-abilities studio workshop.

Artists from Aha Ensemble will share how they approach their training sessions and make new dance-theatre work, with a strong emphasis on movement-based improvisation techniques.

This is a movement based workshop - participants should be prepared to move and interact with others.

Artists of all abilities are welcome to attend, with Deaf and Disabled artists particularly encouraged. Support workers and creative practitioners seeking experience in Access and Inclusion are welcome to attend.
